Dr. Mark St. Cyr

St. Cyr Jazz features the talented Mark St. Cyr. Now a medical doctor and musician, Mark credits his time in school marching bands, attending church services and the music played in his New Orleans family home as his greatest influence. As a descendant of New Orleans jazz pioneer banjoist Johnny St. Cyr, Mark knew it was in his blood to become a great musician.

Mark has played many notable venues and events such as New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, French Quarter Festival, Preservation Hall, Smithsonian Museum of African American History (Washington D.C.) and more.

Quotes from Mark

  • “Growing up I listened to many artists with my daddy on the record player – Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Louis Armstrong, Mahalia Jackson and Jelly Roll Morton. These are some of the old jazz musicians that inspired me.”

  • “My favorite instrument to play depends on the particular mood I’m in.”

  • “I practice everyday"
